2023年4月17日，徐州医科大学麻醉学院的肖诚、周春艺和曹君利教授团队在《自然通讯》（Nature Communications）上发表了题为“Plasticity in ventral pallidal cholinergic neuron-derived circuits contributes to comorbid chronic pain-like and depression-like behaviour in male mice”的文章，阐述了腹侧苍白球胆碱能神经元通过局部环路和向基底外侧杏仁核的投射参与急慢性疼痛的中枢敏化机制，证明干预这些胆碱能通路可缓解慢性疼痛的痛觉过敏和焦虑抑郁样症状。
